Innovative Leadership takes courage

You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore - Anonymous

Innovation is something that has a tangible outcome. It is important to be a creative society to help with humanity and lives. Innovation is essential to economic prosperity. Technology, artificial intelligence, software applications, quantum computers? ( if stable and coherent to operate reliably) machine learning, medical advancements, robots are examples that have filled the voids in our work life, or home life that are tangible and help us move forward.

SURVIVE and THRIVE

Our businesses depend on doing things with purpose. Innovation to set benchmarks against the standard and be steps ahead in order to survive and thrive in their industries and from competitors.

INNOVATION IS TAKING RISK IN UNCHARTERED WATERS AND CREATE THE RULES.

Innovative leaders have courage, they are risk takers, they dream big, and they are problem solvers and create the rules of their inventions.

You've got to go out on a limb sometimes because that's where the fruit is. Will Rogers

As caution, in light of the speed in which technology hitting the open markets, leaders who have innovative mindsets need to make decisions with common sense.

Question like 'why'? how? what? who? benefits from the current trend and shiny new thing of the month or what they themselves create will add to the business, the community in general and the whole impact at a wider scale before deciding to jump on it only to find it is not the right fit after all.

YOU AS AN INNOVATIVE LEADER - BE OPEN TO LEARNING.

Being an innovative leader also means you must be both innovative thinker as also the business thinker. As the innovative leader who actively listens to their customers feedback, their needs, research demographic, you learn to know whether the market will obtain benefit of the proposed new innovation. Listen to and engage your team are they sharing their thoughts in confidence and trust? or just ticking boxes in regards driven by process? Are they driven by an innovative culture? or do they expect resistance? Or even burnout?

AS THE INNOVATIVE LEADER USE YOUR COURAGE TO ALLOW OTHERS TO OWN IT TOO.

As leaders of the way, we gain a collaboration of brilliant minds and innovative ideas through our actions towards our employees. We let them own it, and in doing so we bring about the rewards through an engaged and highly motivated workforce.

You need to be curious. Some questions that can be asked are such;

  • Does this align with our mission, vision and values of purpose?

  • Is it going to make an impact to improve others lives in the communities?

  • The integrity of the people behind the projects we place trust in? (Do background checks.)

  • What future is there with this product? (long term vs short term potential)

  • Ease of use, user friendly?

  • What training would be required for employees?

  • Does this new technology ensure it can be flexible to meet your needs?

  • Security features?

  • Operational costs?

  • Additional addons to keep it functioning or updated?

  • Ethical and compliance integrity?

  • Feasibility of the innovation? How it will impact the bottom line.

THE TOOLS YOU HAVE ONBOARD ARE KEY TO LEADERSHIP SUCCESS.

The leader has the tools of innovative thinking, is intuitive, is creative, allows for inspiration, and in doing so promotes feedback, consultation, and engagement amongst others. Having such tools at your disposal promotes opportunity for new and existing markets. Without this many businesses are left behind by competitors, they become stagnant, staff unmotivated, and this has a bearing on the bottom line.
